My room was very simple, but I really enjoyed my stay. I appreciated the a/c, wifi, shower, pool, , breakfast tables, and simple breakfast of toast and tea/coffee. The staff were excellent, very helpful and fine English. A couple of good vegetarian restaurants nearby, and good shapping on the bazaar street along the waterfront. Also I got a good haircut at Hair Plus in Merdaka Mall.

    - Nice pool- Location near tourist attractions restaurants - Many sitting area in the lodging

    - Need to carry luggage up steep stairs- Poor sound insulation in the room

Super city location. We could do everything by foot. The pool was perfect with the kids. Would highly recommend. You have to go to the information center, which is very close by foot, to book Bako national park and they will also give you the right information for your need.

The building is beautiful, and the location is perfect. Was able to see all the main sites on foot. It was an added bonus being able to have a pool. The staff were also super nice and helpful.

The stairs, but I knew beforehand and was mentally prepared. They were better than expected and there were alternative routes - the charm and location of the property out weighed the stair situation. Plus a lift would ruin the authenticity.

The location and the cafe adjacent to the accommodation.

The hotel is in desperate need of a lot of maintenance and cleaning. Photos do not represent a true picture of this hotel, the beds were hard, only given 1 thin pillow, was not able to get more, rooms are not made up each day, no fresh towels and no pool towels. Breakfast in toast and coffee.

    8BelindaPosted on: 4-26-2025

The pool was much needed on a hot day. Room was clean and basic. Good value for money.

My room was a little loud as I overlooked a few bars but ear plugs did the trick. It was worth it for the location.

Wonderful place full with history. Great staff, wonderful pool.

Fantastic location close to the centre of town and the water front. The lovely pool in the garden was excellent. The property has lots of character which made up for the basic rooms.

Beautiful place to stay, very well located and clean, and with a nice pool for after walking under the Malaysian sun. Only thing is, there is no cleaning service in the room, but they do change the towels if needed, and leave water bottles and toilet paper in the room daily.

No cleaning service. No mini fridge in the room which is sometimes a good thing to have.

The location, the historical part of the building ( although there is not any narrative or literature about it other then a few unmarked photos). I was a Marian from 1959 to 1964 and stayed in the then boarding house.

The staff seems to be larking in any enthusiasm. They do not greet nor acknowledge visitors. They do not clean the room unless told to. Need to have a place where cold drinks could be kept. Need to have more usable furniture for adults.

The accommodation is housed in an amazing historical building. There is so much charm and every corner is photo-worthy. For an old building that size which is not easy to maintain, they have done a pretty good job in keeping it cosy, clean and tidy. The main house is surrounded by trees and we woke up to the chirping of birds. The location is fantastic – a stone's throw from Carpenter Street and all other heritage sites with the iconic wall murals. Despite being in the heart of town, the compound is relaxing and peaceful.

The front desk is down the hill from main building where the rooms are, via a steep staircase. If you have a heavy / big suitcase or a baby's stroller, it is a struggle and definitely not elderly friendly! I believe that wasn't mentioned in their write up. There is an alternative path mid way cutting across the pool before you go up again at the other end but the algae on the slabs made them very slippery – my partner slipped and fell one night! The doof doof beat from the club down the hill was mildly annoying but we fell asleep soon after. Do take note if you are a light sleeper. There is a water dispenser in the breakfast room but locked up after breakfast. Although they provided bottled water daily, wouldn't it be more eco-friendly to only provide a new bottle upon check in (and then every other 3 days like their towels and bedlinen) and encourage guest to refill their bottles? This would also be less work for the housekeeping staff. It was stated clearly there is no fridge in the room. While it wasn't a deal breaker, it would have been handy as my partner has specific dietary requirements and brought his own food. The toilet paper quality can be improved one grade up but more importantly, there was no extra roll in our room. Given the front desk being really far from the room, we had to take one from the w/c near the pool. The breakfast is self service but the tables should be given a wipe in the morning. With the green surroundings and being in an old building, there were lizard droppings on the tables. Finally, our flight was quite early and the front desk lobby was locked up. There was nowhere to sit while waiting for our Grab car.

It is just strategically located in the heart of old Kuching. A short walking distance to Chinatown (Wayang Street), the Kuching waterfront, Padang Merdeka and the Sarawak Museum. The hotel itself has some heritage history to it and has a feel of a museum, being built at the time of the 3rd Rajah Brooke.

The number of stairs from the entrance to the rooms (especially if you're placed at the 2nd and 3rd floors) might be a bit cumbersome for senior travelers.

    9RebeccaPosted on: 2-24-2025

The location is lovely, with some nice areas to sit and socialise outside the rooms. The views are good from the second floor.Close to restaurants and river front. The pool is clean and well kept. The hotel has a quaint colonial feeling which is a nice alternative to the standard chain hotels. The staff are super friendly and helpful.

A few minor issues with the room, but very quickly resolved by staff. The breakfast is toast or cereal, and was not available very early, but was enough to keep us going. There are a lot of steps to the rooms, so it is not great for people with limited mobility.

Stylish period hotel with stunning interiors, surrounded by elevated landscaped gardens. An ideal location to explore Kuching's old town and riverside. The size of the room was adequate for a short stay. The breakfast such as it was was pretty awful (give it a miss) Otherwise a great hotel with period charm, helpful staff. We didn't get to use the outdoor pool but had an excellent evening meal at Kantin located within the hotel grounds.

The breakfasts were awful but there were plenty of eateries nearby.

Two things I like about this hotel. The location and swimming pool

It's feel eerie if you are coming back alone at night, as the case with me. It is a beautiful, old colonial building but it helps if the reception is downstairs not way down in another building.

Location was great, right at central of waterfront. Simple accommodation and breakfast. Overall the hotel needs some refurbishment.

    Nice location!

Very thin walls and basic equipment. Not my choice for next time Kuching
